Al Qaeda in Iraq

Bill Roggio has an article up regarding Al Qaeda in Iraq's shrinking area of operations in Iraq complete with map. Operation Phantom Phoenix started on January 8th and is still ongoing.

• Operation Phantom Phoenix, the current nationwide operation targeting al Qaeda's remaining safe havens, was launched on Jan. 8. Iraqi and US forces have captured killed 121 al Qaeda fighters, wounded 14 and detained an additional 1023 suspects. Al Qaeda's leadership has been hit hard during the operation, with 92 high values targets either killed or captured.

Bill reports that the Iraq Security Forces are stepping up well and are conduction independent operations and deployments during Phantom Phoenix including moving an entire brigade from Anbar to Diyala province.
